Brockenhurst is a vibrant National Park village, where ponies, donkeys and cattle roam free through the village; graze from the verges, and drink from the "water splash" ford in Brookley Road. 

There is a wonderful selection of traditional village shops;

  • opticians

  • hairdressers

  • pharmacy

  • petshop

  • florists, 

  • and both a Co-op AND a Tesco store, to name but a few!

There is a wealth of pubs which serve great food, tea rooms, cafes, fish and chips, Chinese takeaway, Indian restaurant, Thai restaurant, and Italian Restaurants, all within very easy walking distance of Lavender Cottage. Many are within 200m. 

There are also several hotels with well reviewed restaurants, and a number of Spas, again within easy walking distance. 

Many people hire bicycles, (just 500m away, by the train station), and there is little chance of getting bored with options to horse ride, play golf, take a boat trip, visit a variety of beautiful beaches, visit attractions; (such things as Paulton's Park, The Motor Museum Beaulieu, Exbury Gardens, Hurst Castle, the local "Pig Beer" brewery, and even Go Ape at Moors Valley, or a zipwire into the sea at Bournemouth Pier. Or a day trip to the Isle of Wight. And of course don't forget to pack a picnic and explore the trails of the magnificent New Forest National Park.

The stunning National Park scenery changes with each season, and can be appreciated all year round.

The cottage is certified a healthy C for its energy performance, and it is warm and cosy in the winter with efficient central heating and a log burner. Maybe set a slow cooker to stew whilst you are out with the dogs on a crisp bright walk, or even enjoy an early evening night walk to appreciate the night sky and the nocturnal wildlife. 

Your hosts are available most weeks to include a guided night walk early evening in winter if you are interested. And for a whole week stay, we are available most weeks to give a complementary babysitting evening by arrangement. Complementary guided "Spud walks" are also often possible if you would like to join us on one of our dog walks with our dog "Spud".
